I've never used Linux. Will I manage?

Yes. Ubuntu's modern desktop looks and feels similar to Windows. We set it up so everything just works — and we walk you through it. Most people adapt in a day.

What about Microsoft Office files?

LibreOffice opens, edits, and saves .docx, .xlsx, and .pptx files. Compatibility is excellent for standard documents. If you need to collaborate with Office users, it works seamlessly.

Is this really GDPR compliant?

The base system uses only open-source software with no ties to US cloud providers. For full GDPR compliance we recommend pairing with an EU-hosted email and cloud provider — we can advise on this during onboarding.

Will my existing files be saved?

Yes — we back up your documents, photos, and important files before doing anything. You keep everything that matters.

Can I still run Windows apps?

Many Windows apps have Linux equivalents (LibreOffice for Office, VLC for media, etc). For the rare app that doesn't, Wine can run many Windows programs on Ubuntu. We'll advise during booking if you have specific app needs.

What does the onboarding walkthrough cover?

We'll show you the desktop, your apps, how to update the system, how to use Firefox and Thunderbird, and answer your questions. It's designed so you leave confident, not confused.
